PLA is one of the most popular materials to be employed for 3D printing at a safe low temperature either in a laboratory or from the comfort of your home. Created from processing any number of plant products including corn, potatoes or sugar-beets, PLA is considered a more 'earth friendly' plastic compared to petroleum based ABS. Since PLA is derived from sugar, it gives off a smell of semi-sweet cooking oil which is almost unnoticeable but can be avoided in a well ventilated area.
